Terms of Service
Last updated: June 1, 2026
Please read this first
Haven offers emotional support, education, and peer connection. It is not therapy, medical care, or an emergency service, and the “Talk to Haven” companion is an AI — not a licensed professional. If you or someone you love is in danger, please call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or call 911. Haven is here to walk alongside you — but in an emergency, please reach the people who can be there in person.
The short version
- Haven is support and education — not a substitute for professional help.
- Be kind in the community. It only works if it stays a safe place.
- What you write is yours. We store it only to give you the service.
- You can stop and delete your account, with everything in it, anytime.
- We do our best, but Haven is provided “as is,” and there are limits to what we can be responsible for.
These terms are the agreement between you and Haven App LLC (“Haven,” “we,” “us”) for using the Haven mobile app and this website (joinprojecthaven.com), together “Haven.” By creating an account or using Haven, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Haven.
We’ve written this in plain language on purpose. It’s still a real agreement — we just don’t think understanding it should require a law degree.
Who can use Haven
You need to be at least 16 years old to use Haven. By using it, you confirm that you are. Haven is intended for personal, non-commercial use — it’s for you, as someone supporting a loved one, not for resale or business use.
What Haven is — and what it isn’t
Haven is a place for the people loving someone through addiction. It offers a space to be heard, education framed around the disease model of addiction, guided steps, a peer community, and an AI companion to talk to.
Haven is not therapy, counseling, medical or mental-health treatment, diagnosis, or an emergency or crisis service. The “Talk to Haven” companion is an AI assistant — it is not a doctor, therapist, counselor, or licensed professional, and it does not provide medical, legal, or professional advice. Nothing in Haven should be taken as a substitute for the guidance of a qualified professional. Please don’t delay or disregard professional help because of something you read or were told in Haven.
Decisions about your life, your health, and your loved one are yours. Haven can help you think and feel less alone — but you are responsible for the choices you make.
About the AI companion
The companion is powered by AI. It tries to be warm, careful, and genuinely helpful, but it can sometimes be wrong, incomplete, or miss context. Treat what it says as supportive conversation, not professional advice or fact. If something it says doesn’t feel right, trust yourself and reach out to a real professional. In any situation involving safety, follow the emergency guidance above.
Your account
- Please give accurate information when you sign up, and keep your password private.
- You’re responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has access, change your password or contact us.
- One account per person. Please don’t impersonate someone else.
Being part of the community
The community and pods only work if they stay safe. By taking part, you agree to:
- Be respectful. No harassment, hate, threats, or cruelty.
- Protect others’ privacy. Don’t share anyone’s identifying or private information, and don’t try to identify other members.
- Keep it here. No spam, advertising, or moving people off-platform.
- Care with advice. Share your experience, not ultimatums or harmful “tough love.”
We use both people and automated tools to help keep these spaces safe. We may remove content or limit or close an account that puts others at risk or breaks these rules. We’ll always try to be fair about it.
What you write stays yours
Your journal entries, messages, and posts belong to you. By using Haven, you give us permission to store and process your content only as needed to provide Haven to you — for example, to show you your journal, let the companion respond, or display a community post you chose to share. We don’t sell your content, we don’t use it for advertising, and (as our Privacy Policy explains) it isn’t used to train AI models. You can delete it anytime.
Paid features
Haven may offer paid subscriptions or features. If it does, the price and terms will be shown to you clearly before you’re charged, and any purchase is handled through the app store you downloaded Haven from (such as Apple or Google), under their billing and renewal rules. You can manage or cancel a subscription through your app store account. There will always be meaningful support available; we believe cost shouldn’t be the only thing standing between a family and help.
Things we ask you not to do
- Don’t use Haven to break the law or harm others.
- Don’t try to break, overload, hack, or reverse-engineer Haven, or get around its security or limits.
- Don’t scrape or collect other users’ information.
- Don’t misuse the AI companion to generate harmful content.
Our part
Haven and its content, design, and brand belong to Haven App LLC (your own content stays yours). We’re still building and improving Haven, so features may change, and the service may occasionally be unavailable. We’ll do our best to keep it running and to handle your information with care.
“As is,” and the limits of our responsibility
We genuinely care about getting Haven right. But to be clear and fair: Haven is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We can’t promise it will always be available, error-free, or right for every situation. To the fullest extent allowed by law, Haven App LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Haven, and our total liability relating to Haven is limited to the amount you paid us (if anything) in the past 12 months. Some places don’t allow certain limits, so parts of this may not apply to you.
Nothing here is meant to limit anything that can’t legally be limited — and nothing here changes the most important thing: in an emergency, please contact 988 or 911.
Ending things
You can stop using Haven and delete your account at any time, from inside the app (Settings → Delete account). We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or to protect other people. If we do, we’ll act fairly.
Changes to these terms
As Haven grows, we may update these terms. If we make meaningful changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and let you know within Haven when it matters. Continuing to use Haven after a change means you accept the updated terms.
The legal basics
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and Haven.
